Top Ten Things to do in Athens

Top Ten Things to do in Athens:

  • Acropolis
See this ancient building and explore the magic surrounding this iconic landmark. The new Acropolis museum to be opened in 2008 is destined to be one of the great museums of this world. Acropolis is easily reachable by taking the brand new Metro, which is a museum by itself!

  • Plaka
Walk through narrow streets and feel like you’re living 2500 years ago. Enjoy some Greek flavours in a local tavern and sip cool ouzo with some mezes on the side.

  • Kolonaki
Experience coffee culture to the fullest. Drink a "frappe" ice coffee on Kolonaki square and be part of Athenian high society. Big black sunglasses are mandatory...Shop at world renowned brands and work on your stamina while seeing the hilly streets of Kolonaki.

  • Lycabettus Mountain
In the centre of Kolonaki take the teleferique to the top of Lycabettus Hill. See Athens in it’s full splendour, sunset can be enjoyed while tasting a cold Greek white wine. You will feel on top of the world.

  • Museums
Feeling cultural? Pick and choose one out of many historic and modern museums. The National Museum is not to be missed if you’re into the legacy that Greece has in this world. Alternatively head over to the New Benaki museum to see modern Greek art. Don’t forget the Metro stations - they are small museums by themselves!

  • Gazi
A hip new neighbourhood emerging as the new artistic neighbourhood of Athens. Full of interesting graffiti, small streets and quirky restaurants this is the neighbourhood where things are happening!

  • Psiri
The Athenian "meatpacking" district, every corner has the trendiest club, the best Greek music, the favourites of Greek cuisine and life in this neigbourhood only starts after 01.00am...prepare to leave Psiri when the birds start singing.

  • Bouzoukia
Want to dance to the latest live Greek tunes? Arrange a table at one of many Bouzouki clubs in Athens. It starts out casual....but after a few hours you will see what "dancing on tables’ really means...

  • Glyfada and Kifissia
Suburbs boring? Not in Athens! These suburbs represent what the new Athens is all about.
Hop on the tram to Glyfada and unwind in a cool sea breeze while strolling along the coast, doing some shopping and tasting great seafood specialties. Kifissia on the other had offers a great hangout with shady trees, great shopping and fantastic restaurants. Both suburbs are places to see and be seen.

Island Hopping
Had enough of the urban experience? Head over to Pireaus, catch a boat to Hydra or Spetses and live the island life for a day. Then, totally rejuvenated, explore Pireaus and re-adjust to city life in one of the many great tavernas around.
