The Must-See Historic Places of Athens
Walking the streets of Athens, the historic capital of Greece, one may find many historic places and splendid monuments that have been erected through centuries. But even when the time is limited, there are few monuments that cannot be excluded from your tour.
Row1
If you feel like taking a complete tour, a great way to begin is at the temple of Olympian Zeus. This is one of the largest in antiquity which forms the entrance to the city. From there you can walk along the paved street of Dionysou Areopaghitou, passing through the ancient theatre of Dionysos and the ruins of the Asklepieion. This walk will definitely make you feel the ancient aura vibrating throughout the streets.
Row2
From there you can start climbing the sacred rock of the Acropolis to the Parthenon temple, the worldwide known ancient masterpiece of Greece. Taking a small break, you can relax and enjoy the unique 360 view of Athens.
Row3
Then you can walk up to Monastiraki and the Ancient Agora, the commercial, political and religious center of ancient Athens and rest in a nearby restaurant or café enjoying some local foods or desserts. In one of the most renewed places in Athens with many beautiful shops, Kerameikos is also the largest cemetery of the ancient city. Impressive tomb sculptures and stelae are everywhere around, while the Iridanos River runs through the archaeological site.

From the tour we cannot exclude the impressive Acropolis Museum, home to more than 4.000 priceless ancient finds. Among them, you will have the opportunity to admire many Acropolis monuments that represent the importance of Athens as the ancient center of culture. It is considered being an important contemporary work of architecture and a great way to end your day tour in the antiquities of Athens.
