The Diverse Region in the Heart of Athens!

row 1
Psyrri neighborhood is a picturesque area in the heart of Athens. Besides the tourist invasion, it managed to retain its unique character, with old shops still adorning its pavements. Once being the hub for the working class people, the area became quite notorious as it was transformed into a thieves' lair. After criminals were kicked out of the area, the neighborhood became again home to working class people. As the years went by, the region’s authentic ambiance have been infused with the city’s urban aesthetics. An intriguing tangle of classic and new is showcased at neoclassical edifices’ facades. They are adorned with gratifies, while the lanes host on their sides cafes and bars where you can take in the vibrant nightlife.

At midday, the area is quite peaceful, offering a perfect setting to repose and wander around the antique shops. The clubs of the area are famous among the locals. But there is more than that to see while roaming the streets. The Museum of Islamic Art showcases amazing objects from Egypt, brought there by Antonis Benakis. The museum also holds cultural events and art exhibitions.

Old cafes serve the traditional tipple, namely ouzo with delicious mezedes – the Greek tapas. The once prosperous shops that processed leather are now deceased, standing as a nostalgic mark of another era.

Psyrri is a must visit destination to visit during your stay in Athens. Explore the meeting place of the new and the classic, the urban and the quaint elements, the locals and the tourists.
