Discover Olympic Games & Athenian Stadiums

Greece is home to Olympic Games. This is where it all started, in the depths of time. Athletes gathered from every single part of the country, competing with each other in the fundamental sports that now constitute the backbone of Modern Olympics. At the birthplace of the Olympic Games, it is no wonder why there are some of the most prominent stadiums in the entire world with a significant historic value. Besides the emblematic Athens Marathon route, which was covered by the messenger Phiedippides and signifies the epitome of Olympic Games, there are two stadiums that attract global attention in Athens.

First of all, there is the Panathenaic Stadium or else Kallimarmaron. This is perhaps the most famous stadium in the whole of Greece. Its name refers to the finest quality of marble used for its construction and stands tall just a breath from Syntagma Square and the other central attractions of Athens. This is where the Classic Athens Marathon ends and this is the place where the Olympic Flame is lit. Most Athenian travelers visit Panathenaic Stadium as part of their city tour.

OAKA is the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens and is the largest stadium in the country. It has been named after the Greek marathon runner who won in the First Modern Olympic Games of 1896, Spyros Louis. It has a capacity of up to 70,000 in sports events and over 80,000 in concerts. This is a wonderful place for a day trip, as it is situated near the biggest Mall of Athens. In OAKA, visitors enjoy a great exhibition and may take part in guided tours.
